"You Go Stacey!"
Hello Friends and Family!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my page! Please take the time to read everything, view my pictures, and sign my guestbook! As you may or may not know, I have been working for over a year now as a Child Life Specialist at the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood, Florida. I have been blessed with the opportunity to work and build relationships with many of our oncology patients and their families. I am amazed on a daily basis at the strength, courage, and sincere appreciation of life, love, and fun that these children have shown me despite their battle against cancer. Some of these very special kids are Sherwood Levine (a lovable 12-year-old with the biggest dimples I have ever seen), Emerald Robinson (an adorable 8-year-old who loves spending time doing arts-and-crafts in our hospital playroom) and Deandre (an energetic little guy who loves to dance)! You can see their pictures on my photo page. Recently, I learned about the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training, an endurance training program that raises funds to support research for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma. I debated whether or not I could accept the challenge of running a whopping 13.1 miles. I sat at my desk at work and looked up at a wooden necklace that Sherwood had made me (you can view this necklace on my page of photos). On it, he burned the words “You go Stacey" with a lightening bolt! With motivation like that, how could I not run in the race? And so, in January, I will be running the Walt Disney World Half Marathon. Yikes! Although this will be a HUGE challenge for me, it is nothing compared to the challenges the kids I have come to know so well face every day. You are probably wondering to yourself, “OK, Stacey. That’s a nice story, but get to the point!” The point is, in addition to setting the goal to run my first half marathon, I have also set the goal to raise $2000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This money will support research for a cure for leukemia and related cancers and help improve the quality of life of patients and their families through support programs, financial assistance, and education. I am asking for your support as I strive to reach my goals. Whatever you can give counts...it all adds up! As I run the 13.1 miles, you will be with me in spirit and your sponsorship will inspire me to run faster and stronger to the finish line. Please join me in this great challenge. I encourage you to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, myself, and the brave children who have impacted my life by visiting my donor page and contributing! Please forward this web page to all of your friends! Thank you so much for reading this and I hope to hear from you soon! Please feel free to sign my guest book!
